Something Stinks

Watching Newsnight last night from Athens and I wondered just how many folk were on the hotel balcony with Evan Davies. ..Ive noted of late that reporters and anchormen alike are now trooping off to the best hotel close to the site of the news. That is as long as its the nearest Holiday Inn, Hyatt or Continental Hotel to the "story" in order to get the loyalty points. Yesterday the Anchorman for Newsnight was in Athens and the BBC was in Tunisia.. I do not mean the reporter for the Middle East was in Tunisia, I mean just about the entire news desk was in Tunisia and Newsnight was presented from a hotel in Athens. We are now frequently getting entire programs presented from the nearest five star hotel balcony to the event, which is nice for the presenter.

Once upon a time intrepid reporters wondered off with a camera man and sound engineer to gather and find the news and roughed it. Not now.. Now the entire bloody news office troop off to get some air miles to whatever they deem to be the news from the nearest resort or hotel. Why? Most of the action has already been sent to the London, New York etc Office by twitter, skype or mobile phone! One hardly needs a reporter to do anything these days, so how are they getting away with it. Most of the time you could sit on your PC and just watch the "feeds" and if you want balance and not what the big four deem to be news then I suggest you do that. Other wise you get what they want to present and will never know the half of what goes on over this sad wee planet.

I never cease to laugh at some reporter standing on a balcony with the remains of his/her club sandwich still evident on the chest interviewing some poor sod or other fresh from the carnage often a long way down the road or even adjacent country. Sometimes there the only danger they are in is fear of collapse of the structure when they get four or five figures having a argument about this or that. Athens a week ago was  good example, it nearly lost the south side of the Olympic Hotel when Evan Davies of Newsnight had five angry Greeks arguing about Grexit and probably the bill for the taheni.

Another view of  the news on the rampage "from a five star hotel near to the story" and getting a tan was the recent Tunis tragedy where the news teams stayed in the same hotel as the tragedy and could report from the very spot or the sun lounge at any rate.  Its nothing new of course. The site of a dismal reporter stood outside 10 Downing Street or the Foreign Office for the simple reason that they wanted you to think they were at the heart of the story, when actually they knew less than you did is an everyday site on the news. But the backdrop looked good and makes you think "he has his fingers on the pulse". Pure bullshit of course. "We now go over live to our reporter outside the white house" means just that. The prat is outside the white house... Not in it!

I think in these days of health and safety and hijack the intrepid reporter with his note book and pen are probably over and so we should get used to News by way of Trip Advisor and now back to the studio bar!

Time?

Well, what a week!. Everywhere one looks its evil on the rampage. Africa is a total mess and could become the first failed continent. Soon nowhere will be safe from the madmen/women who wish to kill, maim and torture anyone who has any different views on God or a prophet! I wonder how long it will take for the person to arrive who will stop this rot and mobilise the forces of good. So, much for the first commandment!

There was one bright spot, in an otherwise frankly frightening week, the three (estimate) gay pride marchers who appeared to be in support of ISIS at a Gay Pride March... Super, really had me in hysterics to learn that at least three actively suicidal specimens have departed for Syria in order to join and fight for that happy band of all inclusive brothers... Well, good luck with that lads. The more the merrier eh! I wonder what the authorities will make of it, should the slim possibility exist that the Gay call to Jihad takes off and UK ports and airports become deluged with Pink Pride members mincing off to war. Dont forget the sunscreen my dears.

As if that wasnt enough to prove that the lunatics really are in charge of the asylum, Cameron this morning is blabbing on about taking on the bad guys.. I hope he does not mean with the military.. I mean Minitary. No chance, there  is only just enough for the annual service days and Queens birthday parades. As for the RAF, thats for ceremonial purposes only. The Navy......well im not sure what they do..?

Perhaps the PM means another round of sound bite banter on chat shows and some minor initiatives in Bradford Primary schools. God what a mess we are in. No doubt he will fix it with another superb meaningless tirade to camera like the 5,000 doctors he will soon magic up to fix the GP service. Never mind Cameron you burk, it takes ten years to train a GP and most do not wish to be one.. So, please do tell where these GPs are coming from. Dont tell me, Syria..Part of the EU quota after Greece bails out.

I still cannot believe the EU are playing hard ball with Greece. I guess there by hangs the rub. Bankers and Lawyers now run the world and that means we are well and truly stuffed. Nothing will ever be done that could cost money to the bankers or not cost money to argue about till the cows come home for the lawyers. I only hope when the day comes that the talking has to stop and some action take place that we can put someone in charge who thinks like me that bankers and Lawyers should be the first to go into battle to save the system they so love! A cull of (whats the collective for Lawyers) "Argument" of lawyers would be a real fun thing and positive start. There are simply too many of them....

Cheek over Greece

This interest payment owed to the various banks by Greece makes me wonder at the cheek of Germany.

I seem to remember they owed the Allies after the first world war a bob or two in reparations for the four years worth of damage to Allies for four years of rampant death and destruction rained on the world by German militarism. They were let off most of the payments in the 20s and 1930s because of hardship caused by the recession of 1929.

Then after another five year binge of destruction which wrote off over 26 million Russians, 1 in 3 poles and 6 million Jews, laid waste to most of europe and for that they got a massive injection of cash from the Marshal plan that kick started the whole of west germany and is the reason why we all like VWs and BMWs.

Shame they cannot extend the same magnanimity to Greece a country also laid to waste and a million dead Greeks at the hands of the German Army. Mind you, mention that in Berlin and you'll get the standard reply "ya but that was 70 years ago" my reply to that is ... "only 70 years ago"

Once again, another illustration of the bankers greed and the Greeks need coming a very poor second. It really is time we changed the system.

Women... You cant live without them and you cant shoot them. Not fair is it. Why are women so complicated and why is it when your trying to do you best by them, they think your up to something. I recently told my favorite sprog not to bother seeing me this weekend on account of the fact that she is in love with a young man and I would prefer it that she spends the time with him. I said this simply because she can see me any old time and her boy friend and her work. For this consideration I get busted.. Its a frame up judge.

Austerity Britain

On the weekend that saw a mass protest in cities across the UK against austerity my mind has concentrated on some of the effects of austerity on a tired and now mainly poor population. I have also watched the stand off in Europe with Greece. How the hell you can hold the poor in this country (and others) responsible for the banks loosing 1.8 trillion pounds is beyond me. Im sorry I dont get it and with figures that enormous how come no one is chasing the idiots that actually lost it?

I just cannot fathom how chasing some poor, disabled and lonely old person for tax owed on her spare room can be ethical or help the general good. Its almost vindictive and how the populace can re-elect the bastards who designed and impose it is beyond my ken. Its almost feudal in its severity and cruel to impose it on the elderly and frequently disabled who frankly have enough to contend with.

Once again its an alarming illustration of  the Government chasing those they should be protecting, in this case,  from the excesses of the banks cock up. It is not the elderly's fault and so why should they have to and the rest of those we deem disadvantaged have to pay for the rich totally messed up attempt to get richer. How can they justify chasing someone for £50 over payment of disability benefit for example, or those who have an empty bedroom and not chase the arse holes that lost 1.8 trillion.????

I for one wonder at the silent majority and their ability to soldier on and accept such bad governance.  I know many are worried about the gulf that now divides us from those who are supposed to lead us. Never was it so wide.. These idiots in the Westminster bubble have no grasp of reality. They really think we worry about Scottish independence and leaving or staying in the EEC more than zero hour contracts and ever increasing cost of living.

Beyond that is the amazing lack of any kind of direction in the EU and the USA on the current problems that stem from half of Africa being at war.

It seems the man in the street worries more about the world in flames with racial,tribal and religious turmoil than the UN. We worry about the 99 percent of the population being far poorer than the 1 percent who own the world. We worry about the lost values of tolerance and fair play we once believed in and that acted as the glue that held society together. We worry about the United Nations now being totally unable to cope and unfit for the purpose for which it was created and we worry that even the Pope has pointed out a few simple truths and as usual been totally ignored. Thus, what will serve as notice to those who lead us to get off their self opinionated, self centered arses and do something.

The world is a beautiful place and we have to face a choice soon as to whether the basic principles of democracy still apply. Whether the endless pursuit of wealth has any value in a world where most of us will never amass any wealth and its source is so finite and owned by so few. Whether it is time to sort out the worlds ethnic, tribal and religious differences in a more simple way than the AK47 in the hope that good will triumph over evil?

If we do not, then I think we will not be here much longer. In the absence of a forum in which to discuss these issues without the clout to enforce agreements I think wise men now need to pray for peace and prepare for war. Many believe this war is coming and it really could be the last war of good against evil upon the horizon... I  remain hopeful that wise council will prevail.. But its going to be close for social cohesion is weakening and we are polarising along ethnic and religious lines as always happens at times of threat. Its natural and inbred in us and no amount of political correctness or multiculturalism will stop that from drawing the battle lines. History proves this Im afraid.

I spent over four years in the former Yugoslavia watching the process from start to bloody conclusion and I pray for another outcome but doubt it.

Why do I feel its somehow my fault??

A family goes to Syria with the kids and the media go potty...how does that work? The media go banging on about it likes its the end of the world. Muslim Members of the Lords start saying "its an all Muslim problem to be solved by us", the home office are under siege and the authorities are held to account for letting them go.. That then opens the flood gates of emotional repressed anxiety driven by thoughts that we (white anglo saxon) may be xenophobic and should instantly convert to Islamic law or pay penance for not getting involved in the current round of lunacy in the middle east.

SHUT UP!

Enough.. If they (Muslims) wish to have a major inter religious punch up for reasons that are:
A none of my affair and that we should (British) should take no part in.
B I dont understand or frankly care over much.
Then that is for them to sort out.. If they choose to sort it out by killing each other then whats new about that and why should it by our problem.

The point is; Why should the state interfere in movement of its subjects in anyway and particularly interfere in transit of anyone on religious or ethnic issues particular to that ethnic group.. That would be racist.

And if you think I am being radical check this out:

If there is was a major punch up in Britain effecting my kith and kin and I lived abroad would I expect to be stopped in returning to UK to take part in the fight? No, so why do the UK authorities get involved in this??

Its two faced.. Allow folks without let or hindrance do as they wish... within the law and apply that law equally.
